I learned this when I was working 7 AM to 7 PM (and then nights 7PM - 7AM) as a social worker in the pediatric ICU of a hospital. I was exhausted and overwhelmed. I would come home and strip naked (bc eww hospital germs) and lay on the couch and stare at the ceiling. I wouldn’t eat or take my dog on a walk or do anything really…I was so overwhelmed I was paralyzed. 

Then I would try to go to sleep and I couldn’t. It was the most aggravating thing because I was exhausted. 

 

“Enough is enough”, I gave myself a kick in the pants after a coworker pointed out how dark the bags under my eyes were. I got serious about my morning routine, preparing for success and watching the stories I told myself. 

 

Surprisingly, my productivity at work climbed and I came home with energy to spare. That was 4 years ago and I still use the same methods to keep the peaceful pace in my life, no matter how “busy” I am.
